6 Jan 2017
Postdoctoral fellow - U California San Diego

Multimodal fMRI / MEG integration postdoctoral fellow

Organization: University of California San Diego

Project description

This BRAIN Initiative project is focused on the explicit estimation of the relative activity levels of specific neuronal cell types from human multimodal fMRI/MEG imaging signals, using inverse modeling approaches with Bayesian priors available from animal experiments. The project combines human and animal experiments and computational modeling with the overarching goal to connect the dots between noninvasive estimates of cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral metabolic rate of O2 (CMRO2) and MEG/EEG signals and cell-type-specific neuronal activity within a single multi-scale modeling framework, which links microscopic measurements in animal models to macroscopic measurements appropriate for human studies. The project brings together an interdisciplinary group of neuroscientists, physicists, engineers, and computational scientists across two sites: UCSD and MGH/Harvard. The postdoctoral fellow will join the collaborative effort at UCSD, lead by Drs. Anders Dale, Richard Buxton and Anna Devor. The fellow will be specifically involved in acquisition of human calibrated BOLD fMRI (BOLD and ASL) and MEG/EEG data, computational data analysis, and inverse estimation.

Applicants should have 0-2 years of Postdoctoral experience, or be nearing completion of their Ph.D. (estimated within 3 months), and be self-motivated and hard-working. Requirements include a PhD in engineering, physics, computer sciences, signal processing, or related field with a concentration in modeling and statistical signal processing, a strong analytical background and programming experience working in a Unix environment with languages such as Matlab or Python, familiarity with inverse modeling and Bayesian estimation methods. Applicants should have a strong track record of publications.

The position is initially for two years, renewable for up to three additional years depending on satisfactory performance and the availability of extramural funding. Salary is commensurate with experience. The nominal start date is June 2017, but negotiable.

The University of California, San Diego is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to excellence through diversity. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or other protected categories covered by the UC nondiscrimination policy.

Applicants should email their CV to adevor@ucsd.edu
